Ameera Haamid, MD
Equity Advisor
Dr. Ameera Haamid is an emergency medicine physician at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital at Cook County Health. She also serves as assistant EMS medical director of the Chicago West EMS system and is a member of the Cook County Health Core Faculty. She also serves as an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Rush University and adjunct faculty member at the University of Chicago EMS Fellowship program.
Along with her duties in one of the nation’s busiest emergency departments, Dr. Haamid has been active in developing education and initiatives as it relates to structural racism, social justice, and health inequities.
Dr. Haamid is a member of the advisory board and research council for the American Foundation for Firearm Injury Reduction in Medicine (AFFIRM). As a member, she has been vocal about our nation’s gun violence epidemic and is the co-writer of two grants built to serve underrepresented populations by decreasing gun violence.
Dr. Haamid earned her medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and her bachelor’s of science from Jackson State University. She completed her EMS fellowship at Denver Health Medical Center and her emergency medicine residency at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital at Cook County Health.
