Shreeya Sawant graduated from Rutgers University in May 2020 where she double majored in Cell Biology & Neuroscience and Psychology. In her undergraduate career, she was involved in the leadership office on campus and along with a team of 8 other students organized one of the largest student run and student led conferences in the country, inspiring students to find the leader within them through accomplished speakers such as Scott Dickers, CEO of The Onion, and Dr. Wise Young, a leading researcher in spinal cord injury. She was also involved in behavioral neuroscience research and was a learning assistant for financially disadvantaged peers. After graduating, she worked as a medical assistant in nephrology while collaborating with Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine on a research review of small vessel disease and its effects on the brain, eye, and kidney. Shreeya has since moved from New Jersey to Illinois and is currently a second year medical student at Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. She serves on the executive boards for the American Medical Women’s Association, American Medical Association, and American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin as well as being involved in neuroscience research on campus. With a love of teaching and connecting with people, she hopes to pursue a career in Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and potentially a specialty in Nephrology. In her free time, Shreeya loves learning new languages, writing poetry, and cultivating a community of friends and mentors in her new home in Illinois.
